This week’s cue comes from Tales of the Dread-Naught Kid, a puzzle game with a nautical theme. This music accompanies an overhead view of the world map, festooned with treasure-hunting, monsters, and other hallmarks of adventure.

This song was originally written for the end credits of the feature documentary Touché: A Blind Fencer’s Story, which I also scored. The lyrics reflect the theme of the film: maintaining inner strength and hope when the outside world feels remote.

The tune has been re-recorded and remastered for the newest album release from Natalie Nicole Gilbert, Recovery. The music has been transposed into a new key, putting Natalie’s vocals in a particularly gorgeous and expressive register. Continuing the “misc fantasy-themed music” streak, this week’s cue is a lyrical orchestral piece evoking a small settlement with a gorgeous view.

This one is unusual for me in that it’s all-synth. I refer to it as a dark journey through an alien place. It was closer to a performance than a composition in the traditional sense, in that I rode the pitch-bend wheel to create ongoing modulations. (Or in less fancy terms, the wweeeOOOOWwwwwww effects.) Definitely not something you’re going to whistle on the way to work. 🙂
