The series

A romcom about an author of steamy romance novels who suffers from writer’s block and despairs of ever replacing her ex-boyfriend slash muse. Mary finds an unexpected ally in the blunt-but-empathetic Betsy. Striking up a tumultuous but vital friendship, the two explore various wrong places in search of love.

The score

The score is a smorgasbord of pop pastiche and references to classic film score traditions, the latter of which accompany imaginary episodes in Mary’s writerly imagination. The music is zippy and fun, with a splash of sentiment to reflect the story’s good-at-heart sensibility.
