Cue of the Week: “Training Montage”

I trust that the cinematic function of this music isn’t too cryptic, given the title. This perky guitar rock instrumental accompanies a self-improvement binge in the film Siren. The build near the end corresponds to the protagonist’s triumphant breakthrough on the running track.

Cue of the Week: “Struggle in the Sands”

Nothing perks up a Friday like some wholesome battle-to-the-death music. Here’s some Mideastern-styled combat score from Empire Earth 3. This cue features hand percussion, snarling brass, and a few “extras” for color. (The cello routed through a guitar amplifier is not, strictly speaking, traditional Mideastern instrumentation.)

“A Feast of Snacks” at the 2016 Hollywood Fringe

My stage musical A Feast of Snacks is currently running at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Feast is a collection of four short musical comedies, each about fifteen minutes in length. Most of the shows are award-winning graduates of various short play festivals around the world. Produced by Theatre Unleashed (of which I am a newly minted artist-in-residence), the production runs through late July.

Showtimes and ticket information can be found here. If you’re in the area, I hope you can make it!

Cue of the Week: “Ronald”

The bassoon is a lyrical and versatile instrument, but many times is relegated to music with a comedic or clownish character. This cue is one of those times.
