Cue of the Week: “A Dark Discovery”

This week’s selection is another mixed-style suspense cue from the film Healers. I’ll avoid dropping any film spoilers, but as both the title and flow of the music suggest, the score accompanies the protagonist’s discovery that a close relation is… well, let’s just say extremely not nice and leave it at that.

The rhythmic mandolin loop that enters about halfway through represents art through tech failure. The sound’s audiofile on my hard drive was corrupted, resulting in a particular hazy and haunting tone. I’ve lost the original CD-ROM, so am not sure what it was originally supposed to sound like, but I loved the evocative color of the “broken” sound and so decided to use it for this scene.
